The lining with the tube and its secretions sustain the egg as well as sperm, encouraging fertilization and nourishing the ovum until finally it reaches the uterus. When the ovum divides soon after fertilization, similar twins are made. If different eggs are fertilized by different sperm, the mother provides birth to non-similar or fraternal twins.
